Happy New Year! As we welcome 2024 with renewed hope and enthusiasm, it’s the perfect time to ensure our homes are as safe and secure as they can be. I’m excited to share with you an easy-to-follow Annual Home Safety Checklist to kick off the year right.
Your 2024 Home Safety Checklist:
- Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors: Check and replace batteries if needed. Remember, these detectors should be on every floor of your home.
- Fire Extinguishers: Ensure you have at least one on each floor, especially in the kitchen, and check that they’re fully charged and not expired.
- Emergency Exit Plan: Review and practice your family’s emergency exit plan. It’s important that everyone knows what to do in case of an emergency.
- Electrical Inspection: Check for any frayed wires, overloaded sockets, and faulty outlets. Safety first when it comes to electricity!
- First Aid Kit: Restock your first aid kit with essential supplies. It’s always good to be prepared for any minor accidents at home.
- Water Heater Check: Make sure your water heater is set no higher than 120°F to prevent scalding and to conserve energy.
- Home Security System: Test your alarms and sensors. If you don’t have a home security system, now might be a great time to consider installing one.
- Radon Test: This odorless, colorless gas can pose serious health risks. Testing kits are easy to use and provide peace of mind.
- Childproofing Check: If you have little ones or expecting visitors with children, ensure your home is childproofed to prevent any accidents.
- Gutter Cleaning: Clear out gutters and downspouts to prevent water buildup that could lead to leaks or damage to your home’s foundation.
